Black History Month fact for February 23: The first licensed African American female pilot was named Bessie Coleman. Coleman earned her international pilot’s license in France and performed thrilling stunts for five years. She refused to perform at events that denied admissions to Blacks.
This is National FFA Week. A group of our LHS students celebrated by raising awareness about the role the National FFA Organization plays in developing agriculture's future leaders and the importance of agricultural education. Ms. Justine Wasser, LHS Agriculture and Horticulture teacher sponsors the FFA Club.

Black History Month Fact for February 22: Before Rosa Parks’ “stand” that started the Montgomery bus boycott, Claudette Colvin had refused to give up her seat on the bus. She was 15 years old when she took her “stand” on March 2, 1955, nine months before Rosa Parks.

This day in history:1903 Due to drought, the US side of Niagara Falls ran short of water.
Historical figure spotlight: Sojourner Truth traveled from place to place and spoke out against enslaving people and for women’s rights. Touring the country, she challenged many people’s false beliefs about race and gender. Even though she couldn’t read or write, her thrilling speeches won her the respect of many educated people fighting for the rights of Black people and women. That included President Abraham Lincoln, who met with her at the White House in 1864.
All high school students should have filled out a spring athletics survey in your homeroom class. Please do so if you haven’t already!
Sports pictures for current sports have moved to Tuesday, 2/23 from 11-1pm. Make sure to bring your uniform to school!

Bowling Shoutout: Jameson Strozier bowled a 748 series! He had a 263, 269 and 216. Rodi Stender had a 256 game, way to go Rodi. Congratulations to Willie Nordmann for his 640 series, Jeremy Johnson for his 600 series, and to Emily Nordmann for her 534 series. Savannah Webster bowled a 209 game, and Kyndal Stark had a 235 game and a 610 Series. Great Bowling! WAY TO GO!

Black History Month Fact for February 19: Fannie Lou Hamer was a civil rights activist and politician. In the 1960’s she worked to register African Americans to vote. Her work led to the passing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Food handouts will be taking place today for LHS/LJHS students during the usual times.

Black History Month Fact for February 18: Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have A Dream” part of his monumental speech was improvised. His staff had told him not to talk about dreams but a friend in the crowd yelled to tell the people his dream so he did.
The HS boys basketball game tonight has been cancelled due to the weather.
The JrH Volleyball and JrH Basketball games scheduled for tomorrow evening have been cancelled due to the weather.
Lebanon School community, unfortunately our rural roads are still very slick and dangerous for our buses. Also, some city streets and sidewalks are still covered in dangerous ice. We will be taking a snow day tomorrow, Thursday February 18th. Tomorrow’s snow day will be made up and added back to the calendar. We will continue to clean our parking lots and sidewalks in preparation for school on Friday. Please stay safe.

Black History Month Fact for February 17: In 1688 the Quakers wrote the initial protest to end slavery. At that time the protest statement was initially thought too serious for local leaders and sent on to the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting but nothing was done for another 88 years.

Black History Month Fact for February 16: Inoculation (vaccination) was introduced to America by a slave: Onesimus. At that time the African practice was to extract material from an infected person and scratch it into the skin of a healthy person.
